Find the original source of a screenshot image
A screenshot can hide the account, link, caption, and date behind an image. Use the visible words first, then use a visual search to find pages that posted the same or a similar image.
Start with text clues in the screenshot
Open Bloop Note and keep the creator handle, headline, quote, watermark, product name, location, and date. Tap Search Google with the most distinctive phrase. Add the platform or subject if the phrase has broad results.
Text search works well for a Reel title, project name, quoted sentence, event flyer, news headline, restaurant, or product model. Search the exact phrase in quotation marks when spelling and word order matter.
Use Google Lens for the whole image
Bloop does not upload the screenshot image to Google. Bloop Note searches extracted text. Google Lens provides the pixel-level route.
- Open the Google app, Chrome, or Safari on iPhone.
- Tap Google Lens and choose the screenshot from Photos.
- Crop the selection to the photo or object you want to trace.
- Review similar images and websites that contain the image.
Google’s Search with an image guide says results can include objects, similar images, and websites with the image or a similar image.
Check About this image when it appears
Google may offer About this image from an image result. Google says the feature can provide more information about the image and, in some contexts, when Google first saw it. Use that date as one clue, not proof that a page created the image.
Open the candidate pages and compare publication dates, captions, image crops, resolution, and creator credit. A repost can rank above an older source.
Decide whether the image was posted before
Look for the same crop, watermark, background details, or edits. A mirrored, recolored, or captioned copy may come from the same original. Use a smaller Lens crop if the screenshot interface dominates the result.
Search the creator handle and exact caption from Bloop Note as a second lane. Text and visual results often meet at the source page.
A search engine may discover a repost before the creator’s page. Check credits, licenses, portfolio links, and the creator’s own account before reuse.
Keep a source note
Save the best source URL, creator, publication date, and usage terms in Bloop Note. Set a reminder if you need permission, a citation, or a later verification pass. Do not treat a visual match as permission to copy the image.
Protect sensitive screenshots
Crop personal messages, faces, account details, addresses, and private documents before uploading an image to a search service. Bloop keeps screenshot images on the device, but Google Lens needs the selected image to perform its visual search under Google’s terms.
